Valentines and Pancake Day Fun

valentines day celebrations

At The Amwell, there has been a whole range of celebrations happening over February, with plenty of fun activities happening for all residents to get involved with.

Love Is In The Air

The home decorated and hosted a Valentine's buffet for residents and their partners. With a range of carefully selected food items, supplied by the Amwell kitchen staff.  Some of our residents also got involved, baking and decorating cakes, especially for the occasion with the theme in mind. They were delicious!

We hosted a range of Valentine’s crafts, creating hearts to hang on our love tree with names of our loves and making cards for that special someone both past and present. The residents took pride in their creations and hung their heart decorations on a love tree for all residents/ staff to admire, and loved the opportunity to do something special for their loved ones.

The Amwell also welcomed some children from our local primary school and they joined the residents in making Valentine's themed shapes with playdough. There are so many benefits to intergenerational activities, giving older people opportunities for socialising, mental and physical stimulation, emotional support and personal growth. Whilst also allowing the children to gain some wisdom from our residents.

Some of our residents have been having Valentine’s Day pamper days in our in-house salon. Valentine's themed hair and nails were popular amongst our residents for this special occasion.

These events took place for our residents to discuss and remember their loved ones and share memories of Valentine’s days they have previously celebrated. Allowing residents to socialise and work as a team with mental stimulation and fun at the same time.

Indulging In Pancakes

We celebrated pancake day by getting the residents to make, flip and decorate their pancakes and The Amwell kitchen staff provided pancakes as dessert for all residents to enjoy.

The Amwell were thrilled to take part in the tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Lemon and Sugar was a popular favourite for our residents.

The Year Of The Dragon

The Amwell also celebrated Chinese New Year by setting the scene (Chinese New Year decorations) tasting Chinese foods, and mastering the art of chopsticks along with Chinese poetry and music.

Residents embraced the opportunity to indulge and experience Chinese culture and even celebrate like they may have done over the years.

The Amwell are thrilled with the events that we've been able to put on for our residents this month! Our dedicated staff enjoyed reminiscing and sharing memories with residents about their families and Valentine’s Day with their loved ones.
