A Fun-Filled Fundraiser Supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation

Back in September, our community at The Amwell Care Home came together to host a vibrant fundraiser in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This charity is close to the hearts of many of our community, particularly those who have witnessed its incredible impact firsthand.

The day was filled with exciting activities both inside the home and in our landscaped gardens, from a raffle and face painting to a delicious cake stall and auction that featured a collection of handmade items created by our residents themselves. It was truly inspiring to see the creativity on display and how the bidding reflected how much everybody appreciated our residents' hard work. One of the standout moments for everybody was when some of the residents were “auctioned off" for fun!

Our exceptional kitchen staff went above expectations by offering a mouth-watering BBQ and keeping everyone well-fed throughout the day. They also added a special treat: a custom cake for the “Guess the Weight of the Cake” competition, which was a hit among our community.

The whole community of Melton Mowbray came together to support this event, and we’re proud to announce that we raised an incredible £870! Something even more exciting - a generous local business pledged to double the amount we raised. A huge thank you goes out to local businesses like Sainsbury’s, The Regal Cinema, and The Harborough Hotel, as well as many others who generously donated to make the day such a success. Families of residents also played a big role by volunteering at stalls, helping with face painting, and working behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Through this event, The Amwell Care Home has not only helped bring joy to children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation but has also brought the local community together for a meaningful cause. Involving residents in creating handmade items for the auction allowed them to showcase their talents and feel proud of their contributions, creating a sense of purpose and family.
