Spring Has Sprung
Spring is finally here at The Amwell Care Home, and our home has been blooming with engaging activities for all of our residents to enjoy. See what we got up to this month:
Easter Celebrations
The Amwell celebrated Easter to the fullest, starting with an Easter service held by the activity staff. The residents sang familiar church Hymns and joined in reading bible verses and creating easter baskets.
Residents also took part in Easter games such as the egg and spoon race and an egg run where residents in wheelchairs were pushed down the corridor to collect eggs from the bannisters. Later that afternoon families and friends joined the residents to take part in an easter scavenger hunt. The activity team put packages together to work out clues to find chocolate coins in different areas of the home.
The Grand National - Race Day Festivities
The Amwell enjoyed watching The Grand National on the big screen. This activity was inspired by one of our residents Thelma who worked in a betting shop, she reminisced sharing stories about her time there. Thelma enthusiastically handed out the betting slips to all the residents. The residents created a banner to set the scene and made their own fruit kebabs to enjoy whilst watching the race. The staff joined in by dressing in jockey gear.
Well done to our winners Ken, Sue and Glyn.
Feathery Friends Arrival - Visit From Chickens
In preparation for our living eggs, the residents were visited by some hand-reared silkys’ kindly brought in by one of our residents, Barbra’s granddaughter Emma. The residents were able to enjoy cuddles, petting and watching the chickens standing on their frames. Emma was incredible providing us with lots of information about the chickens.
Flower Arranging Workshops
The residents got to take part in flower arranging. Welcoming spring to The Amwell. The residents took pride in their creations and displayed their flowers on the table for all residents and staff to admire.
Honouring Marie Curie's Legacy
The Amwell care home celebrated the life of Marie Curie. The staff and residents took pleasure in dressing in yellow. The residents planted their own sunflowers. They enjoyed Arts and Crafts, Flower arranging and cake making. The residents took part in a Quiz all about the historian.
Creating an engaging activities calendar is important for us at The Amwell, to promote positivity, wellbeing and fun to all of our residents. Have any ideas on activities that we could do within our care home, get in contact with our activities team!
