Getting Festive At The Amwell

This December we've been getting into the Christmas spirit here at The Amwell Care Home, Melton Mowbray. We hosted several activities and events throughout the month, to celebrate the festive period and support residents wellbeing throughout the home.

Drive Through Nativity

We had a fantastic evening at the ‘Drive through Nativity’ at Stockyard Melton Mowbray, we kept cosy and warm in the minibus and tuned into the radio station to hear the story play, watched the performance and met the stars of the show.

It was a great moment for many of our residents to watch and reminisce about the Nativity story they have heard many times, but in a new and exciting way they had never experienced before.

Christingle Making

Residents got stuck into arts and crafts creating their very own Christingle's. These are a special Christmas tradition, which are made to represent hope throughout the days of Advent. Everyone had a great time creating these, of which we have spread throughout the care home for all to see.

Christmas Poems & Caroling

Everybody loves a Christmas song, and we're no different at The Amwell. Our residents all got involved with singing and reading their favourite Christmas carols and poems. Belting out familiar favourites, getting into the Christmas spirit. It was a joy to see, as there are so many benefits of music to care, from communicating in social environments to creating positive memories and instilling a sense of identity.

Rosemary Robin

Our homemade postbox is the pride of the place in Reception, ready for your letters to Santa and Christmas cards for our residents.

Chloe our activities co-ordinator did such a great job creating this, complete with our ‘Rosemary Robin’ which is a tribute to a much loved and missed late resident of the Amwell who used to knit the post box toppers for her village, she had plans to knit a topper for the Amwell post box this year so we wanted to incorporate her into our creation.

We host these activities for residents to keep them active and engaged at The Amwell Care Home. Bringing residents together to partake in the same traditions they did themselves over the years. Building new relations and friendships between residents and staff. While improving physical and emotional wellbeing.
