Around the World at The Amwell: A Taste of Ghana

Residents at The Amwell Care Home recently embarked on an exciting cultural journey, travelling (figuratively) to the vibrant and colourful country of Ghana. As part of the home’s ongoing 'Around the World' series, the day was packed with music, food, traditions and plenty of fun.

With the support of our wonderful Ghanaian team members, residents spent the day fully immersed in Ghanaian culture. From preparing traditional dishes such as fried and boiled plantain to cooking gizzard, everyone got stuck in with the culinary experience. Feedback from residents was unanimous – the food was absolutely delicious, and it was a real treat to try new flavours together.

The celebration went beyond food. Residents and staff embraced Ghanaian culture with traditional outfits, lively music, and dancing. Handmade friendship bracelets added a personal and creative touch, allowing residents to make keepsakes to remember the day. The atmosphere was lively, colourful, and joyful, reflecting the warmth of Ghanaian traditions.

Families and children joined in the fun, making the day even more special. Sharing these experiences across generations created wonderful opportunities for conversation, learning, and connection. It was a brilliant reminder of how cultural celebrations can bring people together, spark curiosity, and create lasting memories.
